How to grow your small business in 2023
Starting and growing a small business is thrilling and rewarding, but it’s not without its challenges.
As a small business owner, you know firsthand the importance of building strong customer relationships and attracting new customers in order to drive growth. It takes hard work, dedication, and a strategic approach to achieve these goals, but the payoff can be well worth it. Whether you’re just starting out or have been in business for a while, here are some tried and true strategies that can help you retain existing customers and attract new ones.
To achieve both and lay the foundation for long-term growth., We must do two crucial things: continual learning and mindset growth. This, in turn, continually offers more value and better service.
Think big, and don’t listen to people who tell you it can’t be done. Life’s too short to think small. – Tim Ferriss
When we improve our knowledge, we strengthen our skillset to run our business and serve our customers better. When we grow our mindset, we learn to set effective goals, become more resilient, and become better leaders; we help our team thrive. When you and your team thrive, it leads to more value, better products, significant innovation and improved delivery. This is key to building your revenue and growing your business.
I am proof of this. My business grew as I developed my skills and shifted my mindset…and it’s no coincidence. Once you learn to build and develop a mindset and thought process that life happens for you and not to you, you learn to take back control, and things start to fall into place. Sure, you have setbacks and lots of hurdles along the way, but you learn to look at these as opportunities and not failures, opportunities to grow and try something new.
Do not be embarrassed by your failures; learn from them and start again. – Richard Branson
Growing your small business
If you want help growing your business in 2023, it starts with you.
It starts with a growth strategy, an honest assessment of where you are now versus where you would like to be. You need a starting and end point to enable you to plan ahead, navigate the hurdles and come out on top.
“Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength” – Sigmund Freud.
For me, proper goal setting, not the fluffy stuff, real deep dive goal setting and planning is the key to clearing out the old and creating the new. Goal setting is vital. And this is something we teach in detail on our programmes……what are you going to achieve in the next 12 months, and how are you going to do it?
Knowing this is absolutely essential for growth.
Sometimes as business owners and leaders, we have to ask ourselves some tough questions.
- What has been holding you back?
- What are the dominant thoughts and beliefs that stop you from making the changes you know are required?
- What do you need to learn?
- Which areas of your business do you need to focus on for growth?
- Who will help you achieve that?
The best leaders believe in their ability to overcome challenges, see opportunities where others might not, understand what their customers want and why, and bring out the best in their team.
Of course, none of this is easy!
And we shouldn’t try to do it alone.
The road to small business growth
The path to business growth is littered with challenges and rewards. Personally, that’s what I love about it, the uncertainty, the unknown, and the excitement of new opportunities.
As small business owners and leaders, we have some essentials to get right. These include using our time effectively (self-management), knowing our numbers and being able to work on the future of our business instead of getting sucked into everyday dramas that keep us stuck, running around chasing our tails.
Growth can and will be painful at times, but like I always say, it’s in the WANT to that the HOW to becomes clear.
“Play by the rules but be ferocious” – Phil Knight.
When we set meaningful goals, and our reason for achieving them is strong enough….then we are so driven that very little will stop us from reaching that goal. We have to gain clarity on our why and have a mission that makes us want to get out of bed every morning and work on building our business and turning our vision into a reality.
Is your mission clear? Do you know what you need to do and how you’re going to do it?
Do you know how to manage your time effectively? Do you thrive or crumble during times of adversity?
Do you lead with confidence and direction that inspires and motivates your team to help grow your business?
